After a long wait, HTC have finally customised the Android 2.2 (Froyo) system software for HTC Desire (Telstra).
The Froyo ROM was on HTC’s website on 26 October 2010. For the patient, the Over-The-Air download was available on 29 October 2010. The difference is that with the OTA download, all your settings, applications etc are retained.
To check for OTA system software updates on your phone:
Menu > Settings > About Phone > System software updates > Check now
A tip for the wary, if the screen times out (turns off) during the download, the download seems to pause. I eventually set my screen timeout to 30 minutes and the download was flying!

After falling in love with the Android system on our Eris, we recently upgraded to the newer bigger Droid X. In the process of the upgrade, our Verizon guy swapped out our Eris for a brand-new one, as a warranty exchange for "defective" equipment. It wasn’t really defective, he just decided to bend the rules a bit in our favor. So this one still has factory stickers on its screen & chrome accents, its ESN is 100% clean (that is, zero contract liability), and yet I can vouch for the phone’s strengths & capabilities.
In this condition, the Eris seems to be selling on the big auction site for around 0 to 0. So I think 5 is a generous price.
We can talk about which Micro SD memory card you’d like. I’ve got 4gb, 8gb & 16gb cards that you can take. The 5 asking price is for the 8gb, which came with this phone originally. Save a few bucks or spend a few bucks more, depending on your needs. This space is pretty much only needed for MP3 storage.
The unlimited data plan for this phone is /mo, and it’s worth every penny. Verizon’s 3G coverage around here is incredible, and FAST.
