yes, if you get an android phone you will have to have a gmail account. you can make one right there from the phone or use an existing one. if you do not have a gmail account linked to your phone you cannot download apps from the market and also (one of my favorite things about the gmail account) save your contacts to your gmail and if for some reason your phone looses your contacts and/or apps or most any info. you can pull it straight off your gmail.

as for customer service there should be a premade contact on your phone for that labeled (ironically) “customer service”
